The impetus for this series began in earnest and with a sense of gravity after the 9-11 attacks. The same intolerance and hate that brought the towers down are the germs of the inscribed graffiti I documented in paint throughout the duration of the Bush presidency. It became difficult to sit by and not expose these attitudes of my fellow New Yorkers through my artistic medium of choice. In exposing, through a documentarian photo realistic style of painting ensuring authenticity and originality, I hope to create a platform to create discourse and give perspective to ourselves and our so-called “American Exceptionalism”.
